Product Description

Titanium coated stainless steel sheet refers to standard stainless steel sheet (typically grades 201, 304, or 316) that receives a thin, durable layer of titanium-based coating through the Physical Vapor Deposition (PVD) process.

Despite the name, the coating is not pure titanium metal. It is titanium nitride (TiN) or similar titanium compounds (TiCN, TiAlN) that are vaporized and bonded to the stainless steel surface at the molecular level. This creates a ceramic-like surface that is extremely hard, wear-resistant, and available in a range of attractive colors — most commonly gold, rose gold, bronze, and black.

The result is a material that combines the corrosion resistance, strength, and formability of stainless steel with a premium decorative finish that will not peel, flake, or easily scratch.

Key distinction from "titanium sheet": This is stainless steel with a titanium-based coating — not solid titanium metal. Solid titanium sheet costs 5-10 times more and is used for different applications (aerospace, medical implants).

Titanium Gold TiN (Titanium Nitride) Hotel lobbies, elevator doors, luxury retail
Rose Gold TiN with alloying Consumer electronics, jewelry displays, furniture
Champagne Gold TiN (thin layer) Residential kitchens, bathroom fixtures
Bronze / Dark Bronze TiCN (Titanium Carbonitride) Office buildings, high-end residential
Black TiAlN or TiCN Modern appliances, commercial kitchens
Sapphire Blue TiN with interference layer Art installations, decorative accents
Brass / Copper TiN alloy Period restoration, classic designs

Custom color matching is available. Lead time typically 4-6 weeks for custom colors.

Base Material Grades

The choice of base stainless steel grade determines corrosion resistance and cost.

Base Grade UNS Best For
201 S20100 Budget interior decorative, dry environments
304 / 304L S30400 / S30403 General interior and exterior, standard corrosion resistance
316 / 316L S31600 / S31603 Outdoor, coastal, swimming pools, high-humidity, chemical exposure
Recommendation:
  • Interior, dry → 201 or 304
  • Interior, high humidity (kitchens, bathrooms) → 304
  • Exterior, any outdoor use → 316
  • Coastal or marine → 316L

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Q: Is Titanium Coated Stainless Steel Sheetreal titanium?
A: No. It is stainless steel with a thin titanium-based PVD coating on the surface. A solid titanium sheet is a completely different product with a much higher cost.
Q: Will the titanium coating wear off?
A: Under normal use, the PVD coating is extremely durable (2000-3000 HV) and will not wear off. Heavy abrasion (e.g., dragging metal objects across the surface) can scratch through the coating.
Q: What is the difference between a titanium coating and a regular PVD color?
A: The terms are often used interchangeably. "Titanium coated" specifically refers to PVD coatings made from titanium nitride (TiN) or similar titanium compounds. It is the highest quality PVD option.
Q: Can titanium-coated sheets be used outdoors?
A: Yes, if the base material is 304 or 316. The titanium coating itself is UV-resistant. The base grade determines corrosion resistance — use 316 for coastal or high-humidity outdoor applications.
